Learning to Drive - Gran Canaria (Tenerife)

Hello looking for some advice regarding getting my driving license - has anyone done it over there? First of all I guess I need to know whether it's possible to do in English - although I speak some Spanish I don't want to make it any harder than it has to be! Also it would be good to know the differences in procedure and price from the UK. My other option would be to fly back home and do an intensive course - perhaps this is the better option?
