Paolo de Mas examines the regional power structure in the Middle East, following the emergence of the Islamic State and the increasing political turmoil in Iraq and Syria. To what extent are these regional conflicts intensified by sectarian and ethnic divisions? Which parties/countries can be considered as regional power players? What are the stakes of regional players such as Saudi Arabia, Iran, and Turkey in their neighboring states? What are their strategies and tactics?


Following this 45-minute lecture, there will be a discussion.
