Albanian names (Tirana)

Hi all, I have a couple of new Albanian clients and I am a bit confused by the way they are using their first and last names. One of them seems to go by his first name (Ervin), however when I received a call from the other client, he used his surname (Mataj) when he introduced himself.

Is there any convention here that someone could help me with?
