8 days in Japan (Tokyo)

I'm looking for tips on how to spend 8 days in Japan. It will be my first time visiting, flying in and out of Tokyo. I'm interested in design, sports, going out and eating well. What can you suggest to do with 8 days? (I don't want to spend all the time looking at temples and museums, but more to see the real Japan!)
