Pet Relocation (Tokyo)

I have an opportunity to work as a teacher at Camp Zama next school year that I am considering. I have a dog and a cat that are very much an important part of my life and would not consider leaving them behind. Before I accept the position, I was hoping to talk with someone who has been through the process of bringing pets to Japan.

I have read through all of the pet import information through USARJ and it's very intimidating. Also, I would fall under SOFA regulations which changes quarantine stuff a bit (I would be able to quarantine my pets at home as long as I lived on post), so that brings up new questions.

Finally, I'm married and my wife would be bringing the pets after I get settled.
