Rejected by Japanese banks? Expat help (Tokyo)

Hi guys,

I arrived 4 days ago into Japan from Australia; i've updated my residence card (Zairyu) and have my visa valid for 6 months at the moment as a working holiday visa.

However, every bank i visited today rejected me... saying you don't speak japanese!, you can't join our bank!,and that i am not permanent and haven't been here long enough. Surely i need a bank if i'm staying here for more than 6 months... how am i supposed to survive.. i've got proof of my address, stamped and signed government paperwork, visa clearance and a residence card.. why are they not letting me open a bank account?
i went to mitubishi bank and Resona Bank.

Any expat advice would be great, thankyou.
