Rental home near ASIJ? (Tokyo)

I am new to this forum and moving to Tokyo this summer with my husband and two high-school aged daughters. Planning to attend ASIJ. It seems most expats live far from ASIJ and take the bus but I am hoping to find a house for rent within walking distance. Am I being unrealistic? Is there some reason expats don't seem to live in Chofu/Fuchu? Will be there week of May 9 to househunt so any answers appreciated!
