>Dear Colleagues –
>Mark Oppe and myself, both British, would very much like to organise some cricket here in Tunis, where we are blessed with the (for us Englishmen…) unusual cricketing ingredients of sun and summer. We would like to start forthwith in July, and need to move fast to establish levels of interest.
>
>Ultimately, we would be delighted to establish regular teams, and interest Tunisians in the game.
>
>But for now, ‘first things first’, and we seek to take our initial steps by organising both a practice net and a game in the coming month, before the holiday season begins. We will hopefully then continue in September and beyond.
>
>We have found excellent premises adjoining the La Marsa tennis club, which has both a covered astroturf net, and a full astroturf pitch. We would also have use of changing facilities. (Meanwhile we are looking at other possible venues with an all-grass outfield.)
>
>We have made reservations for a practice net from +/- 18: Protected content to +/-20:00 on Tuesday 2 July, and a game from 13:00 to +/- 18:00 on Sunday 14 July.
>
>We have enough good kit here in Tunis to be able to have a net and to play a match (i.e. stumps and balls, as well as bats, gloves, helmets, pads, boxes, thigh-pads). That said, we would welcome more kit if you have it.
>
>We are also looking to source some matting or carpet for the playing area, should we move to a venue with an all-grass outfield.
>
>We would charge a small fee to cover the costs of hiring the net and the pitch. This figure can be confirmed when we know the numbers of those interested.
>
>For the game on 14 July, we would provide a match tea between innings, and would hope that we would congregate in a restaurant or hotel afterwards.
>
>Families and friends are, of course, more than welcome, and we would encourage them to bring their own picnics if need be, as well as hats and umbrellas – whether to fend off rain or, more likely, sun.
>
>So can you join us? We would be very pleased to welcome players of any age, sex or ability, to have fun in playing the game that we love.
>
>Or do you know others who might be interested? If so, do please forward this message to them.
>
>We would be grateful if you could reply to us both by email to confirm your interest and/or availability, as soon as humanly possible. Please also ask any questions, and share any ideas. With sufficient interest, we can confirm our bookings at La Marsa.
>
>‘Front foot forward’ – and we look forward to hearing from you and seeing you.
>
>With thanks and best wishes,
>
