The French Language for expats (Vancouver)

I'm planning to move to Vancouver some time later this year or possibly early next year. I had the opportunity to meet with people from the area recently and they mentioned that the majority of people there are raised speaking both English and French. I would love to learn French, and I probably will anyway. I would just like to know if there was any benefit to my speaking French when I arrived . I know this is probably a silly question, but I would appreciate any input.
