How Do I Become a Realtor in Victoria

The real estate profession offers many opportunities given that it includes a wide range of specialties such as residential trading services (sales), rental property management, strata management, appraisal, mortgage financing, commercial trading services and leasing, farm trading services, investment real estate, land development and counselling and research.

A career in real estate as a REALTOR® can be very rewarding and satisfying. It is important, however, to consider very carefully whether working as a REALTOR® is right for you and whether you have the aptitude and suitability for the work involved.

The Real Estate Council of BC is responsible for licensing individuals and brokerages engaged in real estate sales, rental and strata property management. The Council also enforces entry qualifications, investigates complaints against licensees and imposes disciplinary sanctions under the Act. The Council's website offers extensive information on the licensing process.

Having obtained their real estate license, most people choose to join a real estate brokerage firm that is a member of the local real estate board or association. The Victoria Real Estate Board's Bylaws require that all licensees (with the exception of those engaged exclusively in property management) joining a member firm must become members of the Board.
