Doctors and Prescriptions in Austria (Vienna)

Hi,
I'm trying not to compare the UK and Austria but my experience in the UK has been so much easier. So I'm hoping there might be a solution here that makes life a little less stressful.
My doctor has really limited opening times - I have to take a day off work just to go there to get a prescription. I have to do this at least once a month. This can be a little tricky to co-ordinate around bank holidays and delivery times of some medicine.
In the UK I could call up for prescriptions. Or, I could call the Pharmacist who would organise a new prescription, fill it and have it sitting there waiting for me to pick up.
I haven't seen any service like this so far but does anyone know a way to reduce having to physically go to the Doctors to get a prescription? Or can I get the local hospital (which I think has better opening times) to write the prescriptions for me and I can collect them after work?
