JOB GOAL
- To assist the AIS school nurse in the specialized practice of professional nursing that advances the well being, academic success, and lifelong achievement of students. The school substitute nurse:
- Facilitates positive student responses to normal development
- Promotes health and safety
- Intervenes with actual and potential health problems
- Provides case management services - as directed by the School Nurse

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
The scope of practice of the substitute nurses at the American International School shall include:
- Assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and evaluation of treatment for minor illness and injuries
- Emergency management of injuries and illness with referral to appropriate medical care
- If directed by the school nurse, may consult with parents regarding health issues and provision of referral information as necessary
- Monitoring of the school environment for health and safety issues
- If directed by the school nurse, may be asked to provide assistance with coordination of school response to public health issues, such as outbreaks of communicable disease
- Maintenance of student and faculty health records as well as documentation of health activities of the Nurses’ Office as directed by the school nurse.
- School nurse substitute duties vary as determined by the school nurse.

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS
- B.S. in Nursing OR equivalent academic certification in country of origin
- Current and active nursing license
- Nostrification of credentials by the Austrian authorities preferred
- Ideally, at least 3 years of recent nursing experience required.
- Exposure to varied health care settings (e.g. Emergency Dept, ICU, children's clinics or public health clinics, pediatric doctor’s office) desirable
- Experience as a School Nurse or experience with school age children desirable
- Sports medicine experience or certification desirable
- Excellent command in spoken and written English and good command in German

The School Substitute Nurse is evaluated by the AIS School Nurse.

REPORTS TO
The School Substitute Nurse reports to the AIS School Nurse.
