Sending shipments by bus? (Viña del Mar)

Hello,
I will have to ship some of my belongings to Valdivia. I have heard that the best option is by bus. Is this the most cost effective route? Is it reliable? It's my first time doing this, and if anyone has experience and advice, I would appreciate it. :-)
