About War - Free Discussion

Reading the Iraq thread (and how people’s emotions really boiled up) gave me the idea of opening up a discussion thread that deals with war in general. Being no expert myself, I would like to get to know more about the principles of warfare, why wars are being led, what are the goals - and of course your opinions on it.

I think that if we take this seriously and contribute to this thread we can all learn a lot from one another.

I am very curious to hear all you opinions. You may, of course, use specific wars as example. But I would really appreciate it if this thread would not become about just the war in Iraq, or Afghanistan.

I would like to start the discussion with the following question: In your opinion, is it acceptable to have wars, or even normal, and under what precondition?
