Advice on work and living in Southern Germany

Aloha all. I am a recent graduate with a Master of science degree in nutritional sciences, living in Hawaii. This coming autumn I'm moving to Germany to be with my long-term, long distance significant other. I've taken German language lessons but still only know the basics and I'm not conversational. I'm currently looking into intensive language courses and was wondering if you had suggestions on courses. And I will also welcome any advice of potential employment opportunities, transitioning into German life, and the like.
