That took a while!

Wonder what the " actionable US intelligence" is that CNN is reporting - meaning, "we had good reason to kill him immediately."

Will this be the end of the security checks at the airports or will it be more more? Will he turn into a hero in death?

I get the sense that the United States did not want to capture him alive. I would prefer he go to trial since his F.B.I. Wanted poster does not list him as being a suspect at the Protected content on the WTC.

Interested in hearing the United States statement on this.

Even more so, will his family make a statement?

Al-Qaeda founder and leader Osama Bin Laden is dead, according to US officials.

The US is in possession of Bin Laden's body, the reports say. President Barack Obama is due to make a statement shortly.

Bin Laden is top of the US most wanted list.

He is accused of being behind a number of atrocities, including the attacks on New York and Washington on 11 September Protected content .

The al-Qaeda leader was killed in a mansion outside Islamabad in an operation based on actionable US intelligence, CNN reported.

Crowds gathered outside the White House in Washington DC, chanting "USA, USA" after the news emerged.
