Are we addicted to safety?

Excessive need of safety and a need to control all possible dangers has made some Europeans, especially the young and old, increasingly frightened. Sometimes so afraid they are unable to lead a life that’s worthwhile.

Many times this is due to well meaning efforts but it has over the years also become a tool for governments to control the population. The side effect is that people believe the government will protect them against everything and stop thinking for themselves. Whenever something goes wrong in their lives they hence expect the authorities to sort it out.

If we don’t want a future society filled of people that have to be taken care of it’s time for governments and the European Union to step back and let people use their judgement about what’s safe and what’s not.
