Arizona: America's "Nazi" State
Rep. Jared Polis (D-Colo.) on Monday said that Arizona's new immigration law is "reminiscent" of Nazi Germany, Politico reports.
"I think it’s a very fair comparison and I hope that we’re not headed on the same trajectory that Nazi Germany was,” Polis told the website. “But this was a very recent experience for Jewish Americans and Jews worldwide and it’s something that when we see similarities we start ringing alarm bells.”
Polis, who is Jewish, expressed his fear that the new immigration law will pave the way for Arizona to become a "police state."
Politico's Kasie Hunt reports:
“It is absolutely reminiscent of second class status of Jews in Germany prior to World War II when they had to have their papers with them at all times and were subject to routine inspections at the suspicion of being Jewish,” Rep. Jared Polis (D-Colo), who is Jewish, told POLITICO.
“I fear that Arizona is headed for a police state and it really underscores the need for immigration reform at the federal level to fix our system,” he said.
Sarah Palin called Arizona's controversial new immigration bill a "reasonable...wake up call" Tuesday, and criticized President Obama for "perpetuating this myth that racial profiling is a part of this law."
In an interview with Fox News's Sean Hannity -- who introduced the segment by accusing "pro-illegal immigration" protesters of not actually reading the legislation -- Sarah Palin said "there is no ability or opportunity in there for the racial profiling" in the law.
Palin also jabbed at a favorite target, "the lamestream media," saying:
"Shame on the lamestream media again for turning this into something that it is not. Governor Jan Brewer did what she had to do as the CEO of that state to help protect the citizens of her state she had to do what the federal government has refused to do and that is help secure the borders."
