Cultural Durbar Festival Event - Kano, Nigeria

I am planning to put my documentation ready and liaise with the necessary agencies to promote the Cultural Durbar Festival events in Kano state, north western Nigeria after the death of Late Ado Bayero of blessed memory and his successor is now the former CBN Governor of Nigeria, his royal Highness Sunsu Lamido Sunusi III.

The festival has a long history in Nigerian, i hope to put everything together so we can have people both within and outside the country coming to witness such events as one way to promote culture, tourism, networking, and linkages between people from around the world.

The Durbar has always stood out from other ceremonies in Nigeria. Other cultural events have declined over time but the Durbar has increased in strength,” The people taking part in the Durbar represent the foundations of Hausa society. The Durbar serves as a way for people to pay homage to the emir,” The Durbar festival takes place normally just twice a year, homage was made to the Emir on horse riding ceremony dating back Protected content .

Sitting on rooftops, hanging on trees, and packed into the square outside the palace of the emir of Kano, they gathered to take part in one of Nigeria's most spectacular display of pageantry, uniting northerners at a time of tension in the north of Africa's most populous country.

Last year’s event around 2,000 horsemen entered the main square here, representing the 44 local governments of Kano state, northern Nigeria. Horses and riders wore resplendent costumes, the riders in multi-colored robes and turbans, carrying ceremonial spears, knives and guns, the horses wearing colorful headdresses.

The air was filled with the sounds of drummers, trumpeters, gourds filled with beads, long bugles, wailing pipes and the movement of hundreds of dancers. Stilt walkers and clowns dressed in outlandish wigs and rags entertained the crowds.

The Durbar festival takes place normally just twice a year (July/August ending and Mid December every year) during the Muslim Eid al-Mubarak and Eid-El-Fitr Sallah Celebrations. It can also be staged when high-ranking dignitaries visit Nigeria. The last to be honored was U.S. Secretary of State Madeleine Albright. Others include foreign heads of state and government and former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher.
