Danish Cartoons in Museum

I don't know if it is a good thing or not that I am bringing up a debate that had resulted in 50 people dying from violence, but in current events, the Museum of Danish Cartoon Art here in Copenhagen is planning to buy the 12 caricatures of the Prophet Muhammad.

The representatives of the museum said that these cartoons have become part of Danish history, and I agree with this completely.

The museum is also planning to display the cartoons in an exhibition regarding freedom of expression.

Now...are we returning to the same vicious cycle? The stand to allow the publication was followed by all those protests, around the world. The stand to exhibit these cartoons, especially after things seemed to die down a bit, will more than likely result the same way.

I am on the fence with this. I have some Muslim friends that were deeply offended by the cartoons published. I understand where they are coming from. However, I also value freedom of expression.

However, it is one thing to have it in the newspapers, another thing to exhibit it...but again, with it now being a part of Danish history...

Where do you guys stand?
