Dog import/export

I am considering bringing my dog over to Australia - very small Yorkshire terrier. The US requires you use a third party company for booking cargo - what the dog is considered. Obviously I want the best care for my dog, but the companies I have contacted have given me crazy expensive quotes. Is there anyone that has had a positive experience with a company in the US charging reasonable rates that handles dog exportation?
