Driving in Cuba ?

Hi, I am considering going for a few days in Cuba, mainly backpacking but I am also thinking about renting a car. Is it advisable there, what are the "driving rules" I should know, etc... I've already driven in Athens during rush hours, so can't really see what could be more hectic... but who knows !
