Dusseldorf - German schools

I'm looking for some feedback on public German schools for my 12 year old son who will be in the 7th grade next year. We are from the USA and will live in Germany for at least a couple years. I understand there are International Schools in the area, but right now the question is about the public school system.

Does anyone have any experience with the public schools in the Dusseldorf area, and do any of them teach in English?

I appreciate any feedback.
