European Salaries 2008 - rising or falling?

The Protected content Pay Survey by Mercer predicted that average global salaries are forecast to rise by 6% – almost 2% above inflation.

But is this the reality?

I ask this as I've interviewed with various companies (Netherlands) and many announced they couldn't match my salary expectations. Although, my salary is the lower end of the market rate for my skills in Europe (Project Coordinator/Manager) and only increased by 11% since Protected content .

Anyone experience the same?
