Expats and Language Learning in the beginning

I want to hear your opinion. What should new expats do in their first month overseas to help them start learning the local language well?

What should they focus on?
Should they do anything, or just focus on getting settled into a new country?

Again, I want to hear what you think people should do in order to get started well at learning the language.
