"Ghost" referrals, or real expats?

According to my blogsite's stats, visits in the past month have included many from Russia and Ukraine. But there can't be that many English-speaking expats in those countries, so all or most of the hits must be what are called "ghost referrals" - identified by nations but not by posts visited or traffic-sources.

When I was an active IN member, I posted frequently in the Politics & Society section on the topic of Ukraine; but that was some time ago, and it puzzles me as to why anyone would bother pretending to visit my blog now. Can anybody suggest why this happens?

(I am posting this thread in the Expat section, because the notional visitors are presumably pretending to be expats in Russia and/or Ukraine.)
