Health Insurance for Americans

My wife and I intend to move to the UK next fall to be closer to her daughter’s family, he is Brit but she has retained her US citizenship, the kids have both. We are trying to understand how to handle the health insurance issue. We will be in the UK for at least 6 months but then intend to have extended trip back to the US to see my children and families but to then return to the UK for extended periods of time.

At this point it looks like keeping health insurance in the US, with travel insurance in the UK is the only option that makes economic sense but that is not good for non-major health issue in the UK. Does anyone have any suggestions?!
