Hitchhiking

Back in the 70s I hitchhiked all around Europe, in the 80s all around the world. These days I can hardly see any "trampers" on the roadside anymore. Even if I look out for them.

Once hitchhiking was the preferred way of travelling for the young and free globetrotter. Back then he world was a seemingly friendly place; no mobile phones, no laptops. Just you and your backpack and the open road.

And today? Has it gone out of fashion? What has changed? Have we become too suspicious of one another to share a long ride and a nice conversation?

Cheers
Gerald
