Immigrating to Australia

I would like to move to Australia to live with/near my daughter and am trying to find an easy way to get started with the process. Is it necessary to go through an agency to do this? Or, can I do this on my own? I would love a sponsorship as a nurse practitioner, but I am older and don't even know where to start that process... Any help would be appreciated.
