Is Putin's prestige and global standing at stake?

The Russian military has warned the West and their allies that it will retaliate against any attacks on the Syrian military. Earlier today, Israel has attacked T4 base of the Syrian military, and Russia has not retaliated against Israel. If the U.S. military attacks the Syrian military, and Putin does not order the Russian military to attack the U.S. military as retaliation, the West, Israel, Saudi Arabia, and their allies all over the world will see Russia as chicken, and the prestige and global standing of Putin will surely fall.
