Justifiable or overreacted? The clock incident

It's my first thread so bare with me.

The case of Ahmed Mohamed from Irvine, TX has been trending everywhere since yesterday with the hashtag #IStandWithAhmed. When the story got momentum, Ahmed received support from the public, people within the science community and President Obama. Although Ahmed was receiving such positive support, Irvine police, the school district and mayor of Irvine have all declined to apologise to Ahmed. What is your take on this story?
