Minarets and the Swiss

OF course this seems to be a highly charged topic, but sweeping it under the carpet is not probably the most effective approach.

What do you think about:

A/ the decision of the Swiss citizens

and/or

B/ the idea of direct democracy : is this appropriate for societal decisions ? is this form of devolved decision making and people empowerment a good thing ?
