Phillipine Travel Questions

It's one of those places I've said I wouldn't want to visit as I've heard a lot of stories about severe poverty, kidnapping for ransom etc.etc. I've also said I didn't want to go to India but as turned out I went to Goa and that's about the closest I'll ever go to India! The point is.. I've changed my mind.

I'm not interested in going to Manila. I want a Protected content all inclusive resort that's not located in the middle of nowhere, should have it's own private beach and close enough to a town/village that's good to exploring.

I know pearls are a thing to buy but I've already have lots of it. What are the "Thing" to buy there that's not food related?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
