Portugal on the horizon?

I currently live in Ecuador and love it. However, I am beginning to feel like exploring another place. Have looked at Medajean, Colombia but their plan to tax social security income makes it less than attractive. Portugal looks very interesting. Any comments from people living there? I am an American
