Retire to India

My wife and myself have been all over the world but at 56 years of age we are now ready to sell our small house in the UK and retire to India but what a nightmare trying to find the right visa's and simple straightforward information,we would be on a budget and don't need to live in absolute luxury,could anyone tell us how to get in to India and the most reasonably priced place we don't mind being out of town areas,i have been researching for weeks now and becoming more and more confused,is Sri Lanka or Thailand easier?I would be really grateful for any help,regards,Alistair.
