Saudi fatwa: Mickey Mouse worse than ISIS?

Unbelievable. There are fatwas issued by wise Muslim clerics in Saudi Arabia calling for the deaths of Disney’s Mickey Mouse and Frosty the Snowman. I hope you feel as silly reading that sentence as I did writing it because any 4 year old knows that cartoon characters can't be "killed", silly rabbit.

These fatwas are vying for their ridiculousness with fatwas calling for female office workers to suckle their male office workers 5 times (why not 4?) or banning any contact with foreign media. Perhaps the fatwa issued by the UAE clerics calling for the death of Nintendo’s Pokemon (that’s you Pikachu!) could out shine the rest in its sheer stupidity.
But the sad thing is that as of November 18, Protected content , neither the UAE nor Saudi Arabia clerics have issued any official fatwas against the killing of innocent people (in Paris recently) by ISIS. They’ve issued their condolences to France, but spared ISIS from the nasty vitriolic death warrants usually reserved for the targets of their fatwas (regardless of how cute, furry or cuddly these targets may be). What does it mean for Europe to have “allies” that publicly are apologetic of the Paris terrorists attacks but secretly hate Mickey Mouse and Pokemon more than ISIS?! From a psychological view point, could childhood fun-ruining fatwas such as these foster even more angry radical black-uniformed, suicide-belted, “Allahu Akbar” shrieking Kalashnikovs wielding Islamists who have been denied the pleasure of watching Disney cartoons or trading Pokemon cards with their grade school buddies?
Rather than issuing comical erotic fatwas, why can’t the UAE and Saudi Arabian clerics follow the good example set by senior Jordanian cleric Sheikh Ali Halabi who issued a fatwa just last week against killing Jews in Israel except in times of declared war. Now there’s a revolutionary thought! How about that? Sheikh Halabi said in a video distributed via social media that Jews can be killed during war only, and that killing them at any other times is a betrayal. He called upon Palestinians to stop their attacks in the region. Of course, the Arab world condemned Sheikh Halabi as a “traitor” to the anti-Zionist cause for issuing this rather obvious and belated fatwa. They just stopped short of issuing a fatwa against Sheikh Halabi himself! It seems it may be much easier for the UAE and Saudi Arabia to pick a fight with fictional cartoon characters than cartoony Islamist thugs. In this case Art does not imitate Reality…

P.S. Thank you in advance for your replies be they good, bad or ugly. I really don’t give a darn if you disagree with me because opinions on these matters are as diverse as the range of red wines on a 3 star Michelin restaurant wine list. Just pick your bottle. Cheers
