Songwriting with a gender perspective workshops

In May, Protected content returned to Zacatecas to produce our songwriting workshops with a gender perspective.

The goal is to raise awareness and prevent violence against women. We were invited by SEMUJER Zacatecas, the State office for Women’s Affairs.

One of the workshops was conducted with the musicians and singers from the ensemble Rondalla Con Aroma de Mujer from the state capital.

A common form of violence against women that was discussed was sexual harassment in the streets. This topic sparked debate and soon it turned into one of the songs that were composed by the participants.

Violence against women in public spaces is an everyday situation. It goes from lascivious looks to groping women and girls without consent. The impact and consequences of sexual harassment have been kept invisible, especially when it happens in the streets, public transportation and public spaces, etc.
