Studying in the States

Hi!

I'm Sophie, I'm half French and half American, next year as part of my studying program, I have to choose a university in which I can go and study for a semester.

What kind of things should I look for in a State? I'm obviously thinking about cost of living, education (it has to be a good college - any one has ideas about Monterey Bay CA?), real estate (even though it might be taken care of) anything else?
