Tips on where to rent in Philadelphia

Hello expats!
Looking for advice on where to live in Philadelphia and wondering if anyone on here has any insight to share. I am from the States originally but have never been and the wife is an Aussie and only has for a few days to attend conferences in the past. We are currently residing in Auckland but will be moving to PHL in June/July for Protected content . My wife is doing a fellowship at U Penn Perelman Medicine Hospital and so we are hoping to be as close as possible and safe enough for the better half early morning jogging, but keep our costs down and also we have two dogs and so would ideally need something with at least a tiny back yard/garden. Seems that there are heaps of apartments and some rowhouses but not so many houses in the U City or surrounding areas.
