Because of a lack of judicious stamping by passport control agents and the need to have two clean pages free, I find myself needing to get a new passport much sooner than anticipated. Has anyone undergone this process in Russia? My current visa expires on May 31st. I have been told that I need to actually go to a US embassy to get a new passport and I assume the process will take some time. But, I also need the passport in order to travel on the trains to and from Moscow. I need to reapply for my next visa around the beginning of May and assume I need the new passport before then. Is the embassy open on Fridays or the weekend? Thanks to anyone who can answer any of these questions.
