Voting Abroad

Another expat issue is to take part in democratic decisions in your home country from abroad. Austrians have a national election coming up shortly, and the almost 500,000 Austrians abroad could well influence the outcome. However, not even 50,000 are registered on the electoral roll for citizens abroad, as it is not mandatory. French or Italian nationals abroad even vote their own government representatives. The US also calls on their citizens all over the world, and Australians overseas have more than 200,000 voters in London alone. That’s a very large political potential, yet there seems little interest.

Do you register for absentee voting? Do you vote? Is it made easy enough (voting at the embassy/consulate or postal vote/e-voting)?

Cheers
