Weak at foreign languages? Blame your DNA!

After years of saying ‘I’m not gifted at languages’ to explain my imperfect second-language (Greek) skills, I’ve discovered it is not just an excuse: there’s a language gene!
According to a study conducted in the Protected content , the FOXP2 gene correlates to language. When Protected content adults were asked to categorize unfamiliar speech sounds while listening to them, researchers found that those with a certain variation on the FOXP2 gene performed the task both faster and more accurately.
So, now I don’t feel so bad about my linguistic limitations. And – what a great rationalization for not doing more homework!
