what is sacred for expatriates?

It is said that human beings need sacred moments and sacred times. I am not (only) talking about religious issues here. In everyday life we find ways of sacralizing our life through daily rituals. For example, at home, in some places, meals are sacred and or the time to watch TV together is sacred and repeated everyday.

But expats are always on the move, and cannot participate in many sacred rituals, such as birthdays and graduations.

Thus, I ask, what is still sacred in an expat life?
