According to Tony Robbins, we all have six human needs : Certainty, variety, significance, growth, contribution and love/connection.

Read on, to learn how company and organization leaders can be mindful of these needs to motivate employees to stay committed and avoid good employees from leaving.

1.- Certainty: Leaders are responsible to make employees feel safe in a secured environment including:

Clear policies, procedures and common practices.
Explicit job expectations
Provision of the tools to achieve those expectations.
Leaders who make sure job duties of all employees are being fulfilled.
Responsibilities should not overlap, as they may cause confusion and lack of personal accountability and responsibility.

2.- Variety: Leaders should promote positive change and a sense of excitement. Employees get excited when they feel they are using their talents and skills to contribute, when they are given opportunities to take on new projects and ideas , when the environment is pleasant and there is a respectful atmosphere from co-workers highlighted by employers.

3.- Significance: Employees who feel important and appreciated by employers and co-workers stay committed. Great leaders are proactive on any possible issues arising within the team. Leaders are the big boosters of equality and justice.

4.- Growth: While getting a great monetary compensation is highly desired by employees, there are other reasons why they feel motivated and committed to stay:

Training opportunities
Taking on leading roles
Learning new skills
Coaching new employees/volunteers

5.- Contribution: Employers should hire people who feel passionate about the organization's vision. Employees who feel they make a meaningful contribution on others through their work, feel encouraged to stay and perform at their highest selves.

6.- Love and Connection: Everyone needs love and connection. Leaders should cultivate a culture of connection through team meetings, staff meetings, staff lunch and other opportunities for employees to get to know each other inside and outside of work. Employees who feel supported, listened to, validated, promoted by management and co-workers are the ones who are faithful to the organization.

If leaders can satisfy at least four of the six human needs, employees will stay fully committed.

Which of these needs are the most important for you to stay in your company or organization? Do you have any other ideas?
