I wonder if eating much chocolate makes men unfertile and women more fertile. The substance anandamide - an endocannabinoid (like marijuana) - found in the human body and in chocolate is responsible for a happy feeling. In a yesterday published article in "CELL" a science magazine, Lischko et al. showed that anandamine has another effect. It is present in high concentration the female reproductive tract and wakes the spermatozoa from their quiescence in the male reproductive system up once they are introduced into the female reproductive tract. They become now able to make movements and find the eggs. Early activation in the male reproductive tract with anandamine may lead to an early exhaust and early death of the spermatozoa.

Anandamide (arachidonoylethanolamide) is a derivative of the polyunsaturated fatty acid, aracidonic acid. Since anandamide can be produced by the body it does not count as a vitamin or essential fatty acid. It is particularly common in the central nervous system and is found, if only in small quantities, in chocolate.The receptors to which anandamide can attach itself are usually found in the regions of the brain that are responsible for perception and thought processing as well as for physical movement.
