Cost of living? (Zurich)

Hello all,

I'd be interested in moving to Switzerland (currently living in Germany), some time in the future. However, the one thing I keep hearing is how expensive everything apparently is.

There are quite a few questions one could ask about this but most importantly:

a. Is this indeed the case? Is your disposable incoming (also taking into account fewer taxes) that much lower than for instance Germany, Austria, Netherlands, etc.?

b. How are the salaries typically to compensate for this? Assuming you would earn 50.000 euros, what would you need to earn to maintain the same standard of living?

These might be difficult questions but it would be important for me to get a feel for how things might change financially if I were to make this change.
