Question about Non-EU expats working in Zurich

How difficult is it for an expat (Non-EU) to find work in Zurich? I'm moving from the US to be closer to my boyfriend and will work as an au pair for a few months, but I hope to eventually find a different opportunity. I have a BA in International Relations and have two years of volunteer teaching experience in Africa, but it seems really competitive in Swiss (especially without a Master's degree) and I'm not sure how to start. Advice/suggestions for an enthusiastic (and perhaps a bit idealistic Protected content ? :)
