From Spring Sailing to Easter Fountains — InterNations in April

With such a busy schedule in April, we’re sure that InterNations has something in store for you! This month, celebrating Easter — as well as spring in general — has dominated our event calendar. But did you know that the month also started with World Health Day on 7 April? Let’s take a look at what has been going on in various InterNations Communities around the globe.

A Toast to Healthy and Happy Global Minds

While there haven’t been any events specifically dedicated to World Health Day, our numerous Sports & Leisure Groups in various cities offer a wide range of ways to stay active and healthy abroad — not only in April, but all year round.

However, the Hamburg Sailing Group did happen to organize an amazing outdoor activity exactly on World Health Day. On Saturday, 7 April, the group enjoyed blue skies and spring sunshine during two fun-packed hours of sailing on one of the Alster’s two lakes, an urban idyll right in the heart of Hamburg.

On Wednesday, 11 April, and Saturday, 14 April, our global minds in Vienna and Manila welcomed the arrival of spring in a slightly different fashion.

Using the word “fashion” is particularly apt here: the Heart Club in Vienna hosted both a party and a fashion show organized by the fashionistas and style gurus of the Vienna Fashion Professional Group. The rest of the evening was dedicated to enjoying the company of friends, getting acquainted with new expats, and dancing Vienna’s somewhat rainy April nights away.

Three days later, on the other side of the world, denim was all the rage. InterNations Ambassador Wendell Yuson asked the Manila Community to don some denim and head to the The Social, a popular hang-out spot in the bustling capital of the Philippines. Participants were greeted with drinks and finger food while also having the chance to take part in the traditional raffle.

The InterNations Boston Community decided to greet the coming of spring, the season of rejuvenation and regrowth, in a somewhat more traditional fashion — with a toast to global friendship and great company. Members from nearly five dozen countries met up at the Vanderbilt Kitchen and Bar on Saturday, 7 April.

Last but not least, in Venice, the InterNations celebrations of a new season commenced on Saturday, 7 April, at Ca’ Malena. Our members sipped on a typically Italian apero and indulged in delicious Venetian finger food with Ambassadors Miriam and Francesca, during yet another fantastic evening of socializing among global minds.

Easter around the World

For billions of people across the globe, the beginning of April was synonymous with celebrating Easter this year, with Easter Sunday falling on 1 April or 8 April, respectively, depending on which calendar you follow.

The Stuttgart Taste of Cultures Group started off the month by holding a Happy Easter Breakfast, in the warm and welcoming atmosphere of the Grand Café Planie, right on Sunday, 1 April. There were even small Easter treats for the guests, including the canine ones.

The Krakow Easter Event, however, took place on Friday, 6 April, at the Sababa Cocktail Bar. The venue provided an excellent backdrop to a night of networking in Krakow, where international friends enjoyed each other’s company and had the opportunity to welcome new members to the InterNations Family.

On the same night — Friday, 6 April — the spacious outdoor bar ‘The Sands’, situated in the heart of Sandton, provided a luxurious venue for the global minds of Johannesburg. The dress code was inspired by the Easter bunny, and the best-dressed male and female guests were the delighted recipients of a bottle of wine each.

In Sweden, the InterNations Stockholm Community toasted the end of dark Nordic nights, as well as the Easter holidays, at the Clarion Hotel Amaranten, together with InterNations Ambassadors Asli Uysal and Fabrizio Bianchi. The hotel hosted a fantastic night for the diverse community, with a giant chocolate Easter egg hiding a surprise for the winner of this evening’s lottery.

Finally, there was a lot more than just one Easter egg waiting for the Nuremburg I love Nuremburg Group in — you guessed it — Nuremburg, Germany. They took part in a quaint local tradition — the Osterbrunnen Chase Tour. Led by Activity Host Bernd Puschmann, InterNations members toured round the Franconian countryside, visiting the lavishly decorated village fountains and enjoying the local Easter customs.

As always, don’t if you have missed out on any of the Easter celebrations or other events in April. Not only can you still join one of our Sports & Leisure Groups in honor of World Health Day, but there’s plenty more official events and activities coming up!

Still to come in April is the InterNations Easter Egg Hunt at Casa Mencia, in the Dominican Republic. InterNations Ambassadors Kenny He and Rossy De Los Santos are looking forward to welcoming you to the party. Alternatively, the upcoming Bali April Event in Indonesia, hosted by InterNations Ambassadors Kevin Wright and Liam Hayes, is due to take place at the Artotel Beach Club, on Friday, 27 April. If you’re in the area, why not pay us a visit?
