InterNations Celebrates Eight Years of Success

Munich, 12 August 2015
The community with the vision to make life easier for expats has become the largest network for people who live and work abroad

Munich, 12 August 2015 — InterNations (www.internations.org), the world’s leading social network and information site for people who live and work abroad, is celebrating its 8th anniversary in September with a fast-growing community of currently 1.8 million members in 390 cities around the world with a series of local, themed events. InterNations is present in 166 countries worldwide and continues to help millions of expats adjust to their new life abroad.

Eight Years of Bringing People Together

Since its founding in September 2007, InterNations has brought together almost two million members from around the world. The platform has grown from a network of friends living abroad to the number-one platform for expats and global minds worldwide. In the last three years alone, InterNations experienced remarkable growth and as a result doubled its number of registered members and the size of its staff.

Founder and Co-CEO of InterNations Malte Zeeck says: “Every time you move to a new place, you are confronted with the same problems because you have to essentially start all over again. Finding new friends, making business contacts and sorting out your daily life can be a daunting task, but we strive to make this transition easier for expats. InterNations is the most successful global network for expats because the problems that it solves are faced by everyone who lives or works abroad.”

InterNations offers global networking opportunities, local events and expat-relevant information. The platform operates both online and offline: on the website, expats can discuss topical issues in the local and world forums and find destination guides that will provide valuable tips and information for life abroad.

Additionally, around 4,000 events and activities are organized worldwide each month, allowing expats to meet and interact with other global minds in their city. InterNations Official Events take place once or twice a month with sometimes several hundred attendees, giving members the opportunity to network, train their foreign language skills or meet new people over a glass of wine. A wide variety of InterNations Groups offer activities for expats who want to share their hobbies and interests in a smaller setting. Many InterNations Communities have a hiking group, an art lovers group, a dinner group, and language exchange groups, just to name a few.

InterNations Founder and Co-CEO Philipp von Plato states that “in 2014 alone, 900,000 members attended our events and activities. An important part of our success is that we are constantly improving our services to meet the needs of InterNations members, for example with more activity formats, mobile access and new editorial content offerings.”

Celebrations around the Globe

To mark the occasion, InterNations Communities around the world will be hosting events celebrating InterNations’ mission to help expats feel at home abroad, meet people and find information about their new environment. From New York to Sarajevo, from Beijing to Lima, expats from around the world will come together to commemorate eight years of InterNations making life easier for expats.

Ivelina Georgieva, one of the organizers in the Hamburg Community, explains: “Our local InterNations Community alone has more than 10,000 members from all around the world and is rapidly growing. My colleagues and I regularly host networking events where our community members can discuss business topics, casually network or just have a good time together.”

If you are interested in joining the celebrations and having the opportunity to talk to expatriates from around the world who currently live in your neighborhood, please contact press@internations.org or call +49 (0)89 461 3324 79 to sign up for one of the local events.
