Your International Profile on the Web: InterNations Launches New User Profile
Munich, 09 February 2015 – InterNations (www.internations.org), the largest network for people who live abroad with more than 1.5 million members worldwide, just passed an important milestone on its relaunch roadmap: the release of the new InterNations profile. After a major overhaul, the profile – arguably the most pivotal feature of any social network – now enables members to share their international living and travel experiences. A timeline paired with an interactive world map show all the destinations where a member has lived, traveled to or plans to visit in the future.
The new profile section aims to visualize the international journeys of expatriates and frequent travelers without limiting them to their private or professional background only: “While the Facebook profile focuses on social life and LinkedIn represents one’s professional background, our new InterNations profile is all about international living and traveling”, says Philipp von Plato, Founder and Co-CEO of InterNations. “It is designed around our members’ shared international lifestyle, spending their lives as expats abroad. The new profile helps them to connect with other internationally minded people.”
Together with the new profile, several other features have also been launched: With the help of new search options and recommendation algorithms, users can now easily find members with mutual interests and similar backgrounds. Additionally, the revised event calendar makes it easy to find and attend interesting events and activities in one of the 390 InterNations Communities in order to meet other global minds face-to-face.
The recent release marks the second step of the website’s relaunch which aims to radically improve the usability of the InterNations platform, both on desktop as well as on mobile devices. Along with the continued relaunch of the desktop platform, a dedicated mobile website is currently in development and a native app is to be launched later this year as well.
The first signs of impact from the relaunch are very promising: “The new networking features which we released at the end of last year have more than tripled the volume of messages and connections between our members,” says von Plato. “It’s great to see how strongly the improved product affects our users’ behavior and retention. The higher level of activity will allow us to scale and grow InterNations to new levels in the future.”
